Ideal A/C Temp for Louisiana? You’re Not Gonna Like It!
🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Well, its Summer Time here in Southwest Louisiana, and you may be tempted to turn down your air conditioning in the hopes of finding some relief. According to experts, you should resist this temptation and maintain your thermostat in the "ideal range".
What temperature should you set your thermostat to in the Louisiana Summer?
When you're at home during the day, the U.S. Department of Energy's "experts" advise that you set your air conditioner to 78 degrees (I'm gonna stop right here and say, that isn't happening in my house, but lets continue). They claim that this maintains a balance between comfort and efficiency, even if it may initially seem a bit heated.
You're not going to like this proposal at all if you didn't like that one. Experts advise setting the thermostat at 85 degrees while you're away from home, you might as well turn the damn thing off in my opinion . Furthermore, it's said that you might go crazy and set your thermostat to about 82 degrees at night.
Why Professionals Suggest These Unexpected Temperatures
Tell me it's not the most absurd thing ever after listening to the reasons why 78 degrees is considered the ideal temperature. According to the "experts," your air conditioner needs to work less the closer the temperature inside your home is to the outside temperature. Yes, of course! They say that your AC will last longer and your monthly bills will be lower the less it runs.
So the experts are pretty much saying maintain the temperature inside your home as close to the outside temperature as possible. That sort of goes against the whole point of owning an air conditioner, doesn't it?

Ideas for Keeping your Home Cool In Louisiana
So, how can you stay cool without turning down your air conditioner? There are other recommendations from these so called experts about keeping your thermostat set to the 80s. So don't use the oven in the afternoons (early morning cookie making is recommended), keeping blinds or curtains closed during the hottest portion of the day, and use ceiling fans to move air around.
For the most part, we keep my thermostat set between 68-70 degrees, but sometimes even that feels a too warm. I guarantee I will NEVER turn the air conditioner up to the eighties, regardless of how strongly it's advised or how much money I might be able to save. How about you?
