There are American Airlines, United, Spirit, Delta, and Southwest Airlines, among others. Most of these services the small airports across the state of Louisiana, with most of the larger airplanes and carriers servicing bigger airports like those in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Most of these airlines charge you to check your bags, whether it's your first or second bag, but one airline has not for years until today. Southwest Airlines was known for not charging passengers to check their first or second piece of luggage for over 50 years, but that all changed today with the announcement from Southwest Airlines.

The slogan for over 50 years was"Two Bags Fly Free," but starting today, May 28, 2025, Southwest Airlines has ended its free checked bags offering for most passengers. Starting today, passengers who fly with Southwest Airlines will have to pay a fee for all checked baggage. Your first bag will cost you $35, and $45 for second bag of luggage.

Now there is a way around the baggage fees. Passengers with Southwest Airlines credit cards or travelers who book in the highest classes of service can still check bags without paying a fee.

According to CNBC,

Southwest announced the policy in March after months of pressure from activist Elliott Investment Management, which took a stake in the airline last year and won five board seats, pushing for major changes at the company like its free checked bags, changeable tickets and open seating.

So if you are planning to fly with Southwest and you are used to not paying baggage fees, you need to know that starting today, you will be charged for your checked luggage.

How Much Does It Cost to Park at Louisiana Airports?

If you drive to the airport you're going to have to pay for parking. The amount you pay will vary depending on how long you're gone, the kind of parking you choose, and a few other factors. On average, parking at US airports is $20 per day. Some airports ask for more, some don't charge as much. But $20 is a good figure to use for budgeting.
