Back in December 2024, we reported that a popular event and party-style retailer announced that it would be shutting down and closing all of its doors. At the time, we didn't have a timeline or locations of the stores that would be closing in Louisiana. Now we do.

The popular event and party store is shutting its doors after filing for Bankruptcy protection and all 7 locations of its stores in Louisiana will close. One of those stores is right here in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Other locations include Lafayette, Shreveport, Metairie, Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Harvey, Louisiana.

The franchise we are speaking about is Party City. Party City filed bankruptcy and according to CNN,

It had declared bankruptcy in January 2023. The company had struggled to pay off its $1.7 billion debt load, and it was able to cancel nearly $1 billion in debt by going bankrupt. It also managed to keep most of its more than 800 stores open, although it closed more than 80 locations between the end of 2022 to August 2024, according to its most recent financial documents.

The closure of all its stores will affect thousands of people. CNN went on to say that,

Party City is the largest party supply store in the United States. The company had approximately 6,400 full-time and 10,100 part-time workers as of 2021.

Over the weekend, we visited the Party City locations right here in Lake Charles and as we walked up, we saw the store closing signs and they even had posters advertising that everything in the store was at 50 to 80 percent off. So it looks like the Lake Charles location along with the other six locations in Louisiana will be closing real soon.
