MAJOR LOUISIANA POWER COMPANY IS NOW UP FOR SALE

It is being reported by many news outlets across the State of Louisiana that Cleco is officially up for sale.

Cleco has been around for more than 85 years. The company provides electricity to nearly 300,000 customers in 24 parishes, including many in Central and Southwest Louisiana. Right now, Cleco is owned by a group of investors, but they’ve decided it’s time to sell.

The sale could take several months to complete. Cleco says they’re working with financial experts to find the right buyer, and they’ll keep state leaders updated throughout the process.

But depending on who buys the company, things could shift down the road. Now, according to numerous reports, there are no plans to raise rates while the company is searching for a potential buyer.

Even when a new owner is found, they will not be able to raise rates for an additional three years.
