KNGT | Lake Charles, LA — The Bayou State Has a Big Problem… and It’s Buzzing

Living in Louisiana comes with a lot of great perks. But like anywhere, it also has its fair share of problems.

I’ve been told this little monster is just a normal part of life in the Deep South. But that doesn’t make it any easier to deal with. Sure, there are a lot of dangerous animals in the world—but here in Louisiana, one of the worst is alive and active right now.

And I’m not even talking about the storms we’ve been dealing with lately.

Believe it or not, the deadliest creature on the planet is right here among us. And it’s not a gator, a snake, or even a wild hog.

It’s the mosquito, Yep. Louisiana is home to around 60 different types of mosquitoes. And the worst part? They’re hungry!

These tiny little bloodsuckers are ready to feast on you, me, and even our pets. If they can get to you, they will.

According to pest control expert Burnum-Haun, mosquito season in Louisiana kicks off in March and usually sticks around until late September or early October. They love our warm temperatures and our thick, humid air.

Here’s the scary part—mosquitoes are responsible for about 725,000 deaths every year across the globe. That makes them the most dangerous creatures on Earth.

#2 on that list? Humans. People kill around 400,000 other people each year, Crazy, right?

You can check out 10 wild facts about mosquitoes—the deadliest creature in the world, RIGHT HERE.

These pests carry deadly diseases like yellow fever, Zika virus, West Nile virus, and malaria. The good news? Louisiana had very few deaths from these diseases last year. But our neighbors over in Georgia didn’t fare quite as well.

If you’re tired of swatting and slapping all summer long, you might want to call the pros, and get their mosquito-killing system installed in your yard. Trust me, your arms, legs, and pets will thank you.
