🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Well y’all, today is a good day. Matter fact, it’s a delicious day because December 30th is National Bacon Day. If you needed a reason to fry some up, here it is. Crispy, chewy, smoky, sweet, however you take it, bacon might just be one of the best things ever created. Whoever first looked at a pig and thought, “Yeah, that part right there. Let’s fry it,” deserves a trophy.

According to National Day Calendar.com, this whole day exists to remind us that bacon ain’t just for breakfast. It’s for everything. And I mean everything.

Here in the U.S. and Canada, bacon usually comes from pork belly. Other countries slice it from the side or back. And folks eat a lot of it. In 2020, over half the country used at least a pound of bacon that year. And that number feels low if you ask me.

These days you can find bacon flavored things all over the place. Popcorn. Candles. Soap. Air fresheners. I even saw bacon toothpaste once. Not sure I want bacon breath all day but it sure made me laugh. Even with all that silly stuff out there, the best way to celebrate is simple. Cook some. Eat some. Repeat.

Bacon works in cocktails like Bloody Marys. It makes salads better. Sandwiches better. Soups better. And let me tell you, bacon with maple frosting or on top of ice cream is way better than it sounds. Sweet and salty just hits different.

How To Celebrate National Bacon Day?

Now if you want to take Bacon Day to the next level, here’s how they say to do it. Try a new recipe. See what cooking method makes the perfect strip. Put some on your eggs or your burger. Buy a pack for a friend. Host a bacon cook off. Write a bacon song. Make a bacon smiley face. Most of all, visit your favorite butcher and give them a shout out. They keep that good stuff comin.

So happy National Bacon Day y’all. Fire up that skillet and make the house smell like heaven. #BaconDay
