Waiting on Mail? You Won’t Be Getting It On Thursday in Louisiana
(KNGT-FM) - If you're waiting on mail, you will likely have to wait until Friday to get it because on Thursday, the USPS will NOT be delivering mail. We've got everything you need to know...
It’s kind of wild how checking the mail used to be a daily thing, but now I forget for days at a time. I don’t know about y’all, but I barely get any real mail anymore. Most of what shows up in my mailbox is just ads or junk, and I toss it straight into the trash. I mean, let's be real, do those credit card companies actually think we're going to sign up for their card just because they send one to us?
I mean, really, when was the last time you received a handwritten letter in the mail? It just doesn't happen anymore. According to the USPS, mail delivery peaked in 2000, as they delivered over 103,000 pieces of first-class mail. That was way down in 2024 to 43,000 pieces of mail delivered, which is the lowest total since 1968.

So why won't we be getting mail on Thursday? Let's take a look...
Folks in Louisiana won't be receiving any mail on Thursday because it is a National Holiday.
Juneteenth is a holiday that celebrates the end of slavery in the United States. It marks June 19, 1865, when Union soldiers arrived in Galveston, Texas, to tell enslaved people they were free. This happened more than two years after slavery had officially ended. Today, people celebrate with music, food, parades, and events that honor Black history and freedom.
Since it is a holiday, most national banks will be closed, as well as many public offices.
