KNGT | Lake Charles, LA — Get Ready Southwest Louisiana, Starting Friday, Lake Charles becomes a Cowboy Town. For generations we have had some of the best Cowboy and Cowgirl athletes come from our state to go onto the PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association) to live out their dreams of qualifying and competing at the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas.

Things are about to get real western at the Burton Coliseum starting this weekend and rollin’ right on into next week.

Louisiana Junior High Rodeo Finals in Lake Charles, Louisiana

The Junior High rodeo kids are up first, and let me tell you, these young guns can rope and ride with the best of ‘em. Here’s what you can expect over the next 8 action-packed days.

Friday
• 10 AM – Round 1
• 6 PM – Round 2

Saturday
• 10 AM – Round 3
• 6 PM – Round 4

Sunday
• 10 AM – Championship Round

If you’ve never been, this is a great time to go. These kids are tough and talented. You might just see the next world champ out there!

Louisiana High Rodeo Finals in Lake Charles, Louisiana

Now next week, it’s the big dogs. These high school rodeo athletes are fightin’ for a shot to go to Nationals in Rock Springs, Wyoming. That’s the big show!
Here’s the play-by-play:

Monday
• 2 PM – Reined Cow Horse (that’s when they work cows like pros)
• 4 PM & 6 PM – Two rounds of Cutting (where the horse and rider cut a cow out the herd)

Tuesday
• 10 AM – Cutting Championship
• 12 PM – Reined Cow Horse Round 2
• 2 PM – Reined Cow Horse Championship

Wednesday – Rodeo Queen Contest
This is a full day for the ladies trying to become the next Louisiana Rodeo Queen. They’ll do a little bit of everything: testing, interviews, modeling, speech, and horsemanship.
• 1 PM – Speech and Modeling
• 3 PM – Horsemanship (that part’s open to the public — go cheer them on!)

Thursday – Saturday: The Main Rodeo Events
Now this is where the big crowd shows up. These high schoolers have worked all year long for this Title:

• 10 AM – Round 1
• 6 PM – Round 2

Friday
• 10 AM – Round 3
• 6 PM – Round 4

Saturday
• 5 PM – Championship Round
