What Should You Do If You Own One of These Cars?

If you think your vehicle might be part of the recall, don’t wait. Ford will send out notification letters by May 26, so check your mail. But you don’t have to wait for the letter — you can also check online at the NHTSA website by entering your car's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN).

If your car is on the list, bring it to your local Ford dealer. They will fix the problem for free, either by replacing damaged parts or updating the software.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), this marks Ford’s 40th recall in 2025. The latest recall involves two major problems. First, a fluid leak affecting more than 120,000 vehicles could lead to reduced braking performance and longer stopping distances. Second, a software issue in about 25,000 vehicles may cause problems with the engine or parking system, including the risk of the engine stalling.

Vehicles Affected by the Fluid Leak

Ford is recalling 123,611 vehicles from the 2017 and 2018 model years. These include:

  • Ford F-150
  • Ford Expedition
  • Lincoln Navigator

Vehicles Affected by the Software Issue

Ford is also recalling 24,655 vehicles from the 2025 model year:

  • Ford Explorer
