It is always great to see when our beautiful state is featured positively on national television. Such was the case last night, as CBS, which airs the show 60 Minutes, did a feature on the Music of Cajun Country and featured some well-known South Louisiana artists you know and love.

If you’re Cajun and grew up in Louisiana, you’re likely proud of your roots—your culture, your traditions, your food, and your music. It’s a way of life passed down from your Cajun ancestors, and it means a lot to you. So to see it spotlighted for all of America and the world to see makes this writer and Cajun boy very happy.

CBS show 60 Minutes did a 13-minute feature on Louisiana Cajun and Zydeco music, the heritage and language behind the music, and featured the iconic Cajun dancehalls in South Louisiana. The show aired last night nationally, but most of you may not have even known it was airing.

We are happy to let you know that we found the piece and wanted to share it with you to enjoy. So sit back, relax, and get ready to smile while watching this great feature about our culture, heritage, language,  and music that makes the great state of Louisiana so wonderful.

I am so proud to be a Cajun from Louisiana. My heritage dates back generations with family names like Soileau (swallow) and Jobert (Joe Bear). My side of the family comes from the Grand Prairie and Ville Platte, Louisiana area, and my great-grandparents didn't even speak English much, and when they did, you really couldn't understand them due to their thick accents.

I was brought up on Cajun music, the food, and the language. I learned all I know about Louisiana Cajun, Swamp Pop, and Zydeco music from my father, Dave Soileau. We are both members of the Cajun Music Hall of Fame as radio DJs, and we love our music.
