The theme park first opened in 2000 under the name Jazzland. In 2002 the previous owner of the park filed for bankruptcy and it was purchased by Six Flags. They renamed the part to Six Flags New Orleans and invested $20 million in improvements and reopened to the public in 2003. However, in 2005, Hurricane Katrina devastated the park and eventually it was deemed too damaged to reopen.  Six Flags salvaged several of the rides and relocated them to different parks around the country.

It was estimated that around 80% of the buildings and attractions were completely destroyed not only by the hurricane winds but also by being submerged in the salty waters of Lake Pontchartrain that flowed into the park.

I was on YouTube the other night and got caught in a rabbit hole of videos of people exploring the abandoned amusement park. I never went there as a kid, but I remember hearing about Jazzland and always wanting to go.
