Cook was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on March 18, 1972. He was "pretty quiet, pretty introverted, shy" as a child, Cook claims. In his junior year of high school, he overcome his shyness and began acting and doing stand-up comedy. He studied graphic design in college after high school as a fallback if his comedic career didn't pan out. He now designs all of his mechs and several of his album covers.
