Barbecue has a long history that goes back thousands of years. The word "barbecue" comes from the Taíno people, an Indigenous group from the Caribbean, who used a wooden structure called a barbacoa to cook meat slowly over a fire. When European explorers arrived, they adopted this cooking method and spread it to different parts of the world. In the United States, barbecue became especially popular in the South, where different regions developed their own styles, like Texas beef brisket and Carolina pulled pork. Today, barbecue is enjoyed all over the world, bringing people together with its smoky, flavorful taste.

It’s really special, and it feels great to be part of something that’s the first of its kind. It’s an honor to be on the first team.

The first of its kind high school club in Louisiana also teaches team work, communication, and problem solving.
