Joey Chestnut Will Face Kobayashi On Netflix Hot Dog Eating Contest
Two of the greatest eaters of our time will face off one on one this September on Netflix. We have all the details.
Seeing Joey Chesnutt eating hotdogs isn't a new thing, however, there's now a new twist on this amazing spectacle.
The precise place and time of the "Chestnut vs. Kobayashi: Unfinished Beef" event will be revealed later, however, it's scheduled for September 2nd. According to Netflix, the showdown would settle a 15-year feud between Kobayashi and Chestnut, who haven't faced off in a hot dog-eating competition since 2009.
Chestnut, a native of California, presently holds 55 world records in competitive eating, one of which is the recorded for consuming 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. Additionally, he has won the Nathan's Famous Fourth of July Hot Dog Eating Contest 16 times in total, including a streak all of the contests held since 2016.
Joey's biggest rival has always been Takeru Kobayashi. He has won the Nathan's contest six times in his career. Kobayashi talked last month about retiring due to health concerns, however, the powers to be at Netflix were able to convince him to compete at what might very well be his last.
Kobayashi told Netflix:
Retiring for me will only happen after I take him down one last time. This rivalry has been brewing for a long time. Competing against Joey live on Netflix means fans all over the world can watch me knock him out.
In a press release, Joey Chesnutt said Kobayashi made him the legendary eater he is today:
Through all of my years in competitive eating, Kobayashi stands out as my fiercest rival. Competing against him pushed me to be so much better. I know that fans have waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry and I can't wait for our massive showdown live on Netflix! It's time to give the people what they want!
