The regular season of the college basketball season just ended in the Southland Conference. And for Head Coach Dave Simmons for McNeese, it was his last season at the helm for McNeese Men's basketball program.

The McNeese Athletic Department has announced that they have decided not to renew the contract of Dave Simmons who has been the head Men's basketball coach for the past 12 seasons.

Athletic Director Bruce Hemphill said,

“We would like to thank Coach Simmons for his commitment to McNeese and to his student-athletes,” Hemphill said in a statement. “Following a comprehensive evaluation of the men’s basketball program, I believe that it is time to move in a new direction. We appreciate Coach Simmons work in improving our basketball team’s Academic Progress Rate.”

In his 12 seasons, Coach Simmons had a record of 154 wins and 211 loses.  The Cowboys also failed to get into the Southland Conference tournament this year and finished the season at 11-17 overall.  That could have been the straw that broke the camels back for Simmons.

McNeese will now conduct a national search for their next Men's Basketball coach immediately.
