Busta Rhymes Parts Ways With Cash Money Records [VIDEO]

Busta Rhymes‘ ‘‎E.L.E.2 (Extinction Level Event 2)’ doesn’t have a release date yet but what is known is that it won’t be a Cash Money Records project.

During an interview on ‘Sway in the Morning’ Wednesday (July 23), the rapper revealed that he’s left the label because of creative differences, mainly surrounding the upcoming project. There are no hard feelings between him and the YMCMB crew, according to Bus.

The Brooklyn rhymer said he spent five years working on ‘E.L.E.2,’ the longest wait between albums of his solo career. Busta won’t sway from his vision due to the time and effort put into the project plus personal tragedies he’s experienced along the way.

“I was there for two years and the opportunity was a great opportunity at the time, because of the type of deal that was done,” Busta said. “For me, with this particular project and all of the sacrifice that went into it — recording the album for five years, I [lost] Chris Lighty making this album, I [lost] my father making this album — the s— I was putting into this album, I’m not compromising my vision for it.”

“So if I feel like if, in the slightest way, we ain’t facilitating everything necessary for the vision to be seen and executed in the way I’m envisioning this s— for the last five years, let me live and die in my own own inequity.”

When Busta Rhymes signed to Cash Money in 2011, the news had a few scratching their heads. Busta came up with the ’90s Native Tongues affiliation, while Cash Money went from NOLA to the Billboards.

Check out the conversation — which includes a talk about ‘Calm Down‘ and Busta reminiscing on working with Janet Jackson on ‘What’s It Gonna Be?!‘ — in the clip above. The Cash Money conversation starts at the 9:30-mark.
