Ethel Precht is a breast cancer survivor and so is her mother.  She like many of us has also lost family and friends to this disease.  She also understands all to well, the ups and downs of having the disease and financial strain of receiving the life saving treatment could put on a person and their family.  Mrs. Precht wanted to do something for women here in SWLA that don't have the wherewithal, transportation, financial resources or family support to help them get through.
Insurance or not cancer treatment, therapy, prosthesis, lymphoma sleeves, etc is very expensive.  Realizing there was a need for an assistance program that can help woman get these services, Mrs. Precht launched the Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Foundation and Walk.  The non-profit organization uses money from the annual walk to provide the much needed services for breast cancer patients and survivors.  From gas to get to appointments, special bras for woman who've had breast augmentation surgery and more, this foundation makes it possible.  For more info on how you or someone you know can get assistance, click here.
In 2004, with the help of family and friends the first Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk took place and hundreds turned out for the event.  Today thousands participate, making this walk the largest gathering for a non-profit organization in Lake Charles.
If you need someone to talk to who understands what your going through, the Ethel Precht Foundation has a monthly support group for breast cancer survivors. There is no charge and everyone is welcome. If you have questions about the group, contact them at, supportgroup@ethelbreastcancerwalk.org.   The support group meets the third Thursday of every month, 6 pm at Dr. Goolsby’s Office, located at 780 Bayou Pines East Drive (right off of Lake Street).  Family and friends are more than welcome to attend.
Come out and walk or run in memory of loved ones you've lost, survivors you know or just help a wonderful cause. The 10th Annual Ethel Precht Hope Breast Cancer Walk will take place October 18th at 8:30 am at the Lake Charles Civic Center.  See you there!
