According to reports, Lake Charles travelers who fly American may want to take note of the latest news surrounding changes with the airline on a local level. The airline giant has announced they are suspending services in 15 cities due to low demand. So far, Lake Charles is the only Louisiana city this will affect, and flights are scheduled to end as early as Oct. 7.

American Airlines received $5.8 billion in federal COVID-19 aid through a grant and a low-interest loan that came with requirements to maintain employees and minimal levels of service. Those requirements expire on Oct. 1.

Obviously, the pandemic has led to the airline's decision to make cuts. Travel worldwide has slowed significantly according to stats from the Transportation Security Administration. In their latest study, air travel went from roughly two million customers a day to 700,000.
