‘Ballers’ and ‘Insecure’ Will Securely Ball Into New 2018 Seasons
It’s fair to say that Game of Thrones has hogged a bit of the Sunday spotlight, but Dwayne Johnson and Issa Rae will have more time to shine next year. Both Ballers and Insecure have been picked up for new HBO seasons in 2018.
HBO made the announcement Tuesday, booking a third season for the critical breakout from comedian Issa Rae, and a fourth for the Miami-turned-Los Angeles sports industry dramedy. Both series returned for their second and third seasons on Sunday, July 23, following new Game of Thrones episodes.
Said HBO of the double-renewal:
We’re thrilled that the summer lineup of BALLERS and INSECURE connected with our viewers out of the gate. We’re so proud to work with Dwayne, Issa and all of the amazing talent in both shows.
It’s likely the two will need a new Sunday night anchor in 2018, as Game of Thrones’ final season might end up delayed until 2019. Both series’ futures were previously somewhat in question, as Ballers used the last of its Florida tax credit (as did Netflix’s Bloodline), while Insecure picked up a Season 2 renewal weeks into its modestly-rated first run.
In either case, both have numerous additional episodes in their second and third seasons, so watch Sunday for more Insecure and Ballers.
