E!Online reports NBC is gearing up to bring a new and exciting spin on the groundbreaking Broadway musical The Wiz:The Super Soul Musical "Wonderful Wizard of Oz"The original cast included the likes of Stephanie Mills and Dee Dee Bridgewater and won seven Tony Awards, including Best Musical of the year in 1974. The Broadway production gave birth the film in 1978, another massive hit, starring Lena Horn, Diana Ross, Michael Jackson, Richard Pryor and more.

Now comes word a new team of creative geniuses are aiming to bring the legendary stage production back to life.  NBC.com reports the new musical will include the theatrics of Cirque du Soleil to a list of showstopping performers to make-up the talented and diverse cast.
Speaking of which, Stephanie Mills will be back, this time playing the part of Aunt Em, with Queen Latifah playing the Wizard and Mary J. Blige as the Wicked Witch of the West, Evillene.  That's not all, E!Online reports NBC is hoping to add another diva to the mix. Beyonce!  Word has it Queen Bey was offered the role of Glinda, the Good Witch. Whether or not she'll except is a whole-nother ball game, but I will definitely keep you posted.
With or without Lady Bey, when it's all said and done The Wiz Live! is going to epic. According to NBC, the new musical will be a 3-hour, live, spectacular, aw-inspiring, eye-popping event unlike anything seen before!
