Calcasieu Parish Jail Switching To Electronic Mail System
The Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office (CPSO) reports the local jail will soon update its inmate mailing and communications system. Many of the state's jails have already made the transition and Calcasieu Parish will be next in line, officially switching over to the new electronic mail system beginning September 1, 2022. Family and friends can start the process of connecting to loved ones now, by subscribing to MailGuardTracker.com.
It is free to create an account, where users can view mail delivery status, get notifications on rejected mail, and download mail that has been received and processed. Once an inmate is released if they want to keep photos or messages that they've accumulated, they will have the option to do so. They could simply log on to https://www.smartinmate.com/ and download their mail.
Public Information spokesperson for the CPSO, Kayla Vincent, says electronic mail services will be offered to all inmates. Vincent went on to say the new system update will help to improve efficiency and streamline inmate mail distribution. She added it would also create a safer environment for the staff and the well-being of the inmates. Starting September 1, 2022, inmate mail will need to be sent to the following address:
Smart Communications / Calcasieu Correctional Center or Calcasieu Sheriff’s Prison
Inmate Name / Inmate ID#
P.O. Box 9169
Seminole, FL 33775-9169
According to Vincent once the mail is received it will be processed, then scanned into the system, and delivered to a password-secured kiosk. After September 15, mail sent to the Calcasieu Correctional Center will be returned to the sender. However, there is one exception. Please Note - Legal mail such as court documents, bank statements, and copyrighted publications must continue to be sent directly to the following address:
Calcasieu Correctional Center
P.O. Box 2017
Lake Charles, LA 70602
