Chance The Rapper’s Spotify Streams Up More Than 200 Percent After 2017 Grammys
We're only two months into the new year, and Chance The Rapper is already winning big. Last night (Feb. 12), he made history at the 2017 Grammy Awards when he became the first Black artist to win the Grammy for Best New Artist since Lauryn Hill in 1999. He also took home trophies for Best Rap Album (Coloring Book) and Best Rap Performance ("No Problem").
Less than 24 hours later, he's got another massive W--this one coming from Spotify. According to company, the Chicago rapper's streaming numbers on the platform increased by 206 percent one hour after the show concluded. "How Great," which is the Coloring Book track he performed at the awards show, saw its percentage of streams raise 461 percent.
Chano wasn't the only rapper to get a massive boost on Spotify following the 2017 Grammy Awards. A Tribe Called Quest's song "We the People"--a track they performed during the Grammys last night--was streamed 441 percent more than it was before the awards show.
Chance was a pretty big deal in 2016, and his musical talents earned him a ton of admirers, with one of them being Drake, arguably the biggest name the rap game has to offer. The Toronto MC, who won two Grammys of his own last night, congratulated the Chicago rapper on his wins in a text message, which Chance in turn screenshotted and posted onto his Instagram account.
CONGRATS BOI!!!!!!! WELL DESERVED. I AM IN MANCHESTER HAVING A DRINK FOR U BROSKI. MORE MORE MORE,” Drake wrote to Chance. Before hitting send, Chance drafted a response. “Love you bro! I’m hearing amazing things about your [100]."
