Had it not been for the courage of 17 year old, Darnella Frazier, Derek Chauvin would not been behind bars today. Her video of George Floyd being murdered was the star witness in the Chauvin trial and that helped convict Chauvin of second-degree murder.

The young girl testified that she couldn't sleep because she carried the weight of Floyd's murder on her shoulders. She said she apologized to George often for not doing more to stop the former Minneapolis cop from killing him. As it turns out, her video is the reason Floyd and his family got justice. Her video clip, as ABC's David Muir put it, was, "the strongest piece of evidence I have ever seen in a case against a police officer.”

Because of Darnella, a jury found Derek Chauvin guilty of unintentional second-degree murder, third-degree murder, and second-degree manslaughter. Since the conviction, the teen has been recognized for her heroism. She recently accepted an award from PEN America, a free-speech advocacy organization, for her courageousness. Incredibly, the iconic filmmaker, Spike Lee, presented Frazier her reward in a virtual ceremony, noting that the award was given to recognize courage.

On Friday, June 11, Darnella was given another prestigious award for her amazing courage. Frazier received a special citation in journalism by the Pulitzer Board. The award was well deserved. Congratulations, Darnella. You absolutely deserve it!
