The opening of LeBron James' I Promise School in Akron, Ohio has been a hot topic over the last week. The NBA star became even more of a topic over the weekend after an interview with CNN's Don Lemon drew the ire of President Trump.

The LeBron and Lemon interview aired on Tuesday (July 31). While LeBron's new school was the center of the sit-down, LBJ also touched on some broader topics including race. "We are in a position, in America more importantly, where this race thing has taken over," James told Lemon. "One, because I believe our president is kinda trying to divide us."

"Kinda?" Lemon chimed in sarcastically.

"Is. He's dividing us," James responded. "And what I've noticed over the last few months, is that he's kinda used sport to divide us. And that's something that I can't relate to, because I know that sport was the first time I was around someone White. I got an opportunity to see them and learn about them and they got an opportunity to learn about me and we became very good friends. I was like, 'Oh wow, this is all because of sports.' Sports has never been something that divides people its always been something that brings someone together."

Never one to bite his tweet for anyone speaking down on his reign, No. 45 fired back with his own petty barb on Friday (Aug. 3). "Lebron James was just interviewed by the dumbest man on television, Don Lemon," Trump posted on Twitter. "He made Lebron look smart, which isn’t easy to do. I like Mike!"

This sent social media into a frenzy, with some hip-hop artists including Common, Bishop Nehru, Kap G, Dreezy, Dizzy Wright and more chiming in on the matter in defense of the new Los Angeles Laker.

"Donald Trump just tweeted about one of the greatest sports figures ever, LeBron James and implied that he isn’t smart," Nehru posted on Instagram. "Embarrassing himself EVEN MORE, which isn’t easy to do."

Questlove retweeted some hilarious memes and also questioned Trump's awkward MJ plug.
