UPDATE:

An ongoing investigation into a gaping crack has opened on the westbound stretch I-10 in Beaumont, Texas. City and state officials must feel this is a serious matter because they've mentioned that this portion of the interstate is already bad due to road construction. The portion closed is between Washington Boulevard and headed into Houston. It's unclear if the crack is growing or traveling, but here is what Beaumont PD had to say about the matter:

Due to a significant crack in the roadway, I-10 at Washington (Southbound, toward Houston) is closed. Traffic is being diverted off of the highway at the Washington exit. Motorists can travel on the service road and renter the highway at Walden Road. BPD Officers are directing traffic on the service road. Please drive safely and be alert. Updates will be provided as available.

Traffic is backed up as far as you can see but moving very slowly. The closer is until further notice. So far, the authorities, city officials, and the Texas Department of Transportation are investigating the matter. At last word, it was stated that traffic would not be able to travel under the Washington overpass.

According to Beaumont PD, all traffic in Washington will be diverted to the north or south on the service roads at I-10. If you are traveling east on the westbound side I-10, you'll be diverted south and need to make a right on the service road. If traveling westbound on Washington and the eastbound side of I-10, you must make a right on the I-10 service road towards Sam’s.)

We will monitor this and do our best to inform you of the latest developments. Also, follow the Beaumont Police Department.
