Many Southwest Louisiana and Louisiana Athletes Selected in 2023 MLB Draft

Through the years, Southwest Louisiana and the State of Louisana have produced plenty of big leaguers. With the draft wrapping up on Tuesday, a few more Louisiana guys can say they have heard their names called on Draft Day!

The State of Louisiana has had MANY guys drafted into Major League organizations. The list of Louisiana Major Leaguers is pretty incredible! Guys from Aaron Nola, Warren Morris, Jace Peterson, Mikie Mahtook, Austin Nola, Josh Smith, and so many other big names in the league!

Southwest Louisiana has produced guys like Jace Peterson, Gavin Cecchini, Garin Cecchini, Casey Daigle, Ray Fontenot, Joe Lawrence, Wade LeBlanc, Josh Prince, Blake Trahan, and many others.

Southwest Louisiana had two local High School athletes selected on Tuesday. Sulphur's Jake Brown went in the 16th Round to the Texas Rangers and Barbe's Donovan LaSalle went in the 19th Round to the Kansas City Royals. Both are committed to going to college but will have a decision to make on whether or not to go to school or sign with the MLB Ballclub.

As we reported yesterday, Former Pitkin Tiger and LSU Tiger Garrett Edwards were selected in the 11th round by the Tampa Bay Rays. Though Edwards was selected in the 11th Round, Edwards is set to receive 5th Round money. Edwards is expected to sign with the Rays Organization.

Each college in Louisiana had a player drafted in the MLB Draft in 2023. LSU lead the way with 14 players drafted, Louisiana-Lafayette followed suit with 3 players selected, and Northwestern State, Louisiana Tech, McNeese, Tulane, and Louisiana-Monroe each had one player selected.
