🐊 KNGT 🐊 | Louisiana — Alright y’all, grab a seat for this one, because this is one of those feel-good stories that just makes you smile.

Even though I’m writing this a little ahead of time, January 13th is coming up, and that means it’s National Rubber Ducky Day. Yep. The little yellow duck that’s been floating around bathtubs forever gets its own day, and honestly, it deserves it.

Now some folks hear “rubber ducky” and think about bath time. You know the deal. Warm water. Bubbles everywhere. That duck just floating there like it owns the place. For a lot of us, that little duck was part of growing up. It didn’t matter if you were having a good day or a rough one, the duck was still smiling at you.

Then you’ve got a whole other crowd these days. The Jeep folks. If you’ve got a Jeep, you already know what I’m talking about. Getting “ducked” in a parking lot is a real thing. Somebody leaves a rubber duck on your Jeep just to spread a little cheer. No reason other than kindness. No strings attached. Just a duck and a smile.

According to the Sesame Street Calendar, Rubber Duckie’s birthday is January 13th. This is actually how this whole thing got started. I will leave the clip here so you can all sing this song and get it stuck in your head like it is in mine.

When was the Rubber Duck Invented?

Well, rubber molded toys started popping up in the late 1800s. Dolls, animals, all kinds of shapes, including ducks. In 1928, a man named Landon Smart Lawrence got a patent for a weighted duck design. The idea was simple. Tip it over, and it pops right back up. Just like the duck we know today.

During the war, rubber was in short supply, so things changed a bit. By the 1940s, ducks started being made out of vinyl and plastic instead. A Russian sculptor named Peter Ganine later designed a floating duck that looks a whole lot like the one sitting on shelves today.

Here’s a fun one. In 2001, rubber duck sales took off in Britain after a tabloid reported Queen Elizabeth II had one in her bathroom, complete with a little inflatable crown.

So weather you enjoy your little Ducks in the bathtub or enjoy leaving it on Jeeps. get ready to celebrate and just remember the history of our little friends.
