NBA Legend Spotted in SWLA Buying Sugartown Watermelons
(KNGT-FM) - It's not every day you see an NBA Legend hanging around Southwest Louisiana, but on Monday Afternoon, a picture started making waves of one of the NBA's all-time greats in Southwest Louisiana picking up some of the famous Sugartown Watermelons.

If you’ve never had a Sugartown watermelon, you’re missing out. There’s just something about that sweet, juicy bite that hits different, especially on a hot Louisiana day. These things aren’t just watermelons. They’re part of summer around here. Once you’ve had one, no other melon really compares.
Sugartown watermelons are grown in the sandy soil of Beauregard Parish. What makes them special isn’t just the type of watermelon; it’s the land and care that goes into growing them. In the 1960s, local farmers started saving seeds from the sweetest and juiciest melons, and that helped make Sugartown melons famous. Today, melons grown within about 50 miles of Sugartown can carry the name. They’re so popular, some people even try to sell regular melons as “Sugartown” ones.
On Tuesday, a photo of NBA Legend Scottie Pippen surfaced from the Sugartown Watermelon Stand on Facebook, and it said...
We have had a lot of customers over the years buy our melons, from local customers, to country music stars, like the late George Jones, and people from all over the US. Today, we had a 6 time NBA champion stop by and get a load of melons. Mr. Billy Pippen and his brother Scottie!
