Louisiana State Farm customers could soon see money arrive in their mailbox. The insurer has begun issuing a dividend averaging $138 per eligible vehicle, with $136 million expected to be returned to policyholders.

The payment is not a discount on a bill or a credit applied to an insurance policy. It is a separate payment that qualifying customers can deposit or spend.

Who Qualifies for the State Farm Dividend?

According to the Louisiana Department of Insurance, the dividend applies to customers who had a State Farm Mutual Private Passenger Auto Voluntary Preferred policy in force on December 31, 2025.

Customers do not need to remain insured by State Farm today to receive the money. The amount will vary because payments are based on a percentage of the premiums paid for each qualifying policy. Louisiana’s average is expected to be about $138 per vehicle.

Households with several eligible vehicles may receive multiple payments arriving separately.

How Louisiana Customers Will Receive Their Money

State Farm customers with an email address on file should receive a message between early August and early September with instructions for selecting a payment method. The payment process is being managed through Veritas.

Customers without an email address on file will receive a check through the mail. State Farm plans to distribute payments in phases through the end of 2026, so eligible drivers should not assume they were overlooked if a payment does not arrive immediately.

Anyone receiving an email should verify the sender and avoid clicking suspicious links. Customers can go to the official dividend website or call the customer service number at 1-888-808-9532.

Why State Farm Is Returning the Money

Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple said dividends can be issued when an insurance company collects more in premiums than expected while paying fewer claims than projected.

“This is not a credit on your policy. This is a check that you will receive in the mail that you can deposit and spend,” Temple said.

State Farm attributes the nationwide dividend to stronger-than-expected underwriting performance in 2025. The company is returning $5 billion to qualifying auto customers nationwide, including the $136 million designated for Louisiana drivers.

For families dealing with Louisiana’s high insurance costs, the payment will not solve the affordability problem. Still, a check averaging $138 per vehicle is welcome news and worth watching for during the coming months.
