(KTDY) - A couple of days ago, I wanted to use an emoji in a message that centered around the Cajun culture in Louisiana, and I was reminded that there is no emoji for what I was hoping to use.

After a few more searches for things we do or eat here, I learned that there are very few emojis in our smartphones that depict some of our favorites in South Louisiana.

Sure, we have all the emojis we need for sports, travel, weather, etc., but when it comes to activities and certain foods here in "Cajun Country," we are lacking many. Each year, Apple updates its list of emojis, so perhaps after this post, they may be inclined to add a few that represent Cajun Culture.

Here are a few emojis we need on our phones that represent our lifestyle in South Louisiana.

For starters, let's get right to it. We need a good emoji for Mardi Gras. Sure, there's a mask emoji currently available, but I think we need an emoji that shows someone standing on a horse, much like what you'd see in Mamou, Eunice, or Church Point for Mardi Gras.

Then there's the famous pig roast. If you're from south Louisiana, chances are you've attended an all-day pig roast, and we need this emoji to help others who may not be aware of "Cochon De Lait."

Sure, others outside Louisiana do this, but could you imagine sending an emoji resembling the photo above to someone in California or Boston?

How do we not already have a crawfish emoji? I went to text a family member a few days ago while I was eating crawfish, and I was reminded that there's no emoji to "Say" or show crawfish.

And no, I am not using a crab emoji when talking about crawfish. If any of this list needs to happen, it's the crawfish emoji, especially since crawfish is being shipped all over the country now.

Sticking with southern favorites, the gumbo emoji does not currently exist, and like a crawfish emoji, we need this one badly. So many people love a good southern gumbo, and sending this to someone on a cool fall day or night just seems right.

Lastly, I was thinking about animals when putting this list together, and for all the wrong reasons, the Whooping Crane seems to be in the news quite a bit these days.

This endangered bird, which is often found in southern Louisiana, needs its own emoji. It is a beautiful bird, and while it attempts to re-populate, I think this gorgeous bird needs an emoji placement on our phones.
