Louisiana Musician Wounded While Performing on Stage

A Louisiana musician is recovering this morning after being wounded by what police believe was a stray bullet fired from half a mile away. The incident happened on Saturday evening at Memorial Park between Roussell Street and Barrow Street on Main Street.

According to a social media release from the Houma, Louisiana Police Department the injured performer was a member of the Josh Garrett Band. The band was performing in downtown Houma near Lumiere Blues and Jazz Bistro. At approximately 8:45 Houma Police were notified of the injury as they were investigating another shooting incident in the area.

At first, the performer notified first responders that he had been struck in the head by an unknown object. That object was later confirmed to be a stray bullet. Officers investigating the complaint believe the bullet may have come from a shooting that was reported some 15 minutes earlier in the area of Sutton Avenue and Third Street.

As you can see on the map, the distance between the two reported incidents is about one-half of a mile. The injured performer was not identified but police did say the performer's injuries are not thought to be life-threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

The Josh Garret Band was performing at the Luminate Houma Event on Saturday. The event was produced in cooperation with the Bayou Regional Arts Council and was billed as a family-friendly event for the public. We should note that the gunshots are not believed to have been fired at the Luminate Houma Event but were a part of another incident. That incident remains under investigation by Houma Police.
