Kanye West is up to something. On Monday evening (Sept. 17), the rapper, producer and designer posted on Instagram a square image that recalls his Yeezus cover, sparking speculation about a new release.

The photo in question, like the Yeezus art, features an optical disc in a clear case. Text on the case reads "MiniDisc," otherwise known as Sony's short-lived format that aimed to compete with CDs. The Instagram post is uncaptioned.

West shared the image hours after Saturday Night Live announced that he would be performing during the upcoming season premiere on Sept. 29. It will be Kanye's first appearance on the show since 2016 when he performed The Life of Pablo tracks "Highlights" and "Ultralight Beam" with a star-studded supporting cast including Chance The Rapper, The-Dream, Kelly Price and others.

Adding to the mystery, West's post follows Chance's own cryptic Instagram post yesterday featuring the words "Good Ass Job," a possible reference to the originally announced title for Kanye's follow-up to his 2007 album Graduation. Chano has said he's working on a project with 'Ye and they were spotted together in the studio last month.

Kanye's last solo album Ye dropped in June amid a string of G.O.O.D. Music releases that he executive produced, including Kids See Ghosts, a joint album with Kid Cudi.
