Kendrick Lamar, Gucci Mane, 2 Chainz and More: Bangers This Week
It's almost Thanksgiving and you need to impress your cousins with your taste in hip-hop. You don't want them to call you lame at the dinner table, again! Luckily, XXL has corralled a bunch of songs that came out this week on one page, so you can click and scroll to your heart's content. Let's get to the music.
As most people know by now, Mike WiLL Made-It is the executive producer of the soundtrack for the forthcoming end of the year blockbuster movie Creed II. As expected, the tracklist is rap-heavy, and Mike WiLL bought out the big guns, enlisting Kendrick Lamar and Pharrell for the song "The Mantra." With a different energy than Kendrick and P's "Alright," both similarly rap about rising against all odds. Cornrow Kenny closes the song out well, too.
Gucci Mane is both a huge part of trap rap's history and still a super-active rapper right now. This time around, he teams up with Kevin Gates for "I'm Not Goin'" and their styles mesh perfectly. Both rappers turn in strong performances; their similarities in approach make all the sense in the world for this.
2 Chainz decided to surprise everyone and come out with two new songs this week. One of the two is "Girl's Best Friend" featuring Ty Dolla $ign. On this track, the two rap about icing the lady in their life out, as any boss should. The song is very smooth and sort of a different direction for 2 Chainz, but it's so catchy that most will accept it with open arms.
