Kim Mulkey Inks New Deal With LSU, Makes Women’s Basketball History
Kim Mulkey agreed to the terms of a new contract, to stay on as Head Coach of the LSU Women's Basketball Team. The 61-year-old's new deal with the Tigers won't be official until the LSU Board of Supervisors approves it. We will know soon enough if the Board will give Mulkey's contract the green light when they meet on Friday.
ESPN reports Thursday (Sept. 7) the championship-winning coach signed off on a $32 million, 10-year contract. If everything's a go, Coach Kim Mulkey will become the highest-paid women's college basketball coach in history. There's no denying, her new contract extension will be a far better deal.
According to The Athletic, the Tigers basketball coach's previous deal had her earning $2.5 million per year until the end of the 2028-29 season. The new contract would exceed $3 million salary per year, catapulting the annual value of her deal past Coach Geno Auriemma of UConn.
The Tigers' April 2023 Championship win, gave Coach Mulkey, her fourth title having earned three previously with the Baylor Bears. She came home to Louisiana at the right time and took the helm of LSU's women's College Basketball Team in the spring of 2021 where she initially inked an eight-year $22.5 million before incentives.
