Epic Records CEO, L.A. Reid went on Elliott Wilson and Brian “B.Dot” Miller's Rap Radar podcast and revealed some very surprising news—A Tribe Called Quest has a new album on the way.

“We have a Tribe Called Quest album coming, I’m really excited about that," he said, when asked about what the label has upcoming.

And no, it won't only feature old, previously unreleased music. Reid dropped another bomb, saying that the legendary hip-hop group actually had been working on music prior to Phife Dawg's passing due to complications with diabetes this past March.

“[It is] a brand new album that they recorded before Phife [Dawg] passed away. I’m really happy about it man, it’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about over everything we’re working on.”

As of right now, there aren't any specifics on a release date for the album, but this is obviously huge news. ATCQ is one of the most prolific acts in hip-hop, inspiring an entire generation of genre-bending, innovative musicians, and a new album from the group could easily end up being one of the biggest releases of the year.

Listen to the special anniversary "No Guests!" episode of the Rap Radar podcast here. L.A. Reid starts talking about Tribe album around the 14:49 mark.
