Hey Southwest Louisiana, looking for something to do this weekend? It won't be hard to find around these parts, especially with Juneteenth events taking place in Lake Charles and even up the road, where the 160-year-old festival began in Galveston, Texas, all weekend.
There are always a few fun events going on around town for adults, kids, and folks looking to do the family thing, like the Summer Skate Night this Friday, June 20. There are just as many festivals, food, and music events heating up across the state. If you wanna make a quick getaway, here are two can't-miss festivals packed with flavor, culture, and sooooooooooul!

Soul Food Festival – Franklin, LA

Saturday, June 20 - 22, 2025
This three-day event kicks off Friday with live Southern Soul & Blues performances. Saturday, they will feature a mix of Zydeco and Cajun artists, and Sunday, it's all about the Gospel music. Head to Franklin, LA, where they are serving up Southern soul with live music, a great community atmosphere, and some serious soul food. I'm talkin' straight outta Grandma’s kitchen soul food.
What can you expect?
This is one of those small-town festivals that hits just right. It's family-friendly, so you can bring the kids. There'll be a variety of vendors for you to shop and purchase local or handmade arts and crafts, a health village, a 5K run, and more. If you're interested, there will be a wonderful Gospel Brunch on the last day of the festival (June 22) from 11 am to 3 pm featuring live entertainment and delicious food. Ain't no party, like St. Landry party! And who dat say Texas is the only place you can get good BBQ Cher? If BBQ is your love language, Opelousas is calling your name! All weekend long, you can expect fall-off-the-bone ribs, sweet heat sauce, and some of the best music you've ever heard.
They will have the Zydeco Boss, Keith Frank, himself at this shindig! But that's not all, there is a list of heavy-hitters performing this weekend to include "Tha King of I-10" Rusty Metoyer and Zydeco Krush, who will open the festival on day 1.
