Louisiana Senator Bill Cassidy says he expects the new stimulus package, CARES 4.0, to pass later this month. This package will benefit local and state governments to help cover $500 billion of lost revenue due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cassidy said in a interview with Louisiana Network that he and the other U.S. senators are also evaluating whether they will extend federal unemployment benefits set to expire on July 31.  He said that lawmakers need to make the right decisions with the taxpayers money because it will all have to be paid back in the future.

He went on to say that the CARES 4.0 Stimulus Package will not only help cover lost revenues that occurred during the pandemic, but also the estimated losses in the future for the next year.

Another topic being discussed is whether or not to include extending rental assistance. Cassidy did say that if we are reopening the economy, he didn't see it necessary to extend federal unemployment or rental assistance. He said it will ultimately depend on how many states across the U.S. are allowed to reopen by the end of the month.
