Today in Tha Wire Billboard reports, after months of speculation the NFL announced Travis Scott will join Maroon 5 and OutKast rap legend Big Boi to perform in the Super Bowl LIII Halftime Show. You'd think this would be an easy gig to fill, but it hasn't. It's been like pulling teeth for the NFL to hire music stars to perform in what used to be an artists dream gig. That was before former San Fransisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick was blackballed by the league for protesting against racial inequality.

Sadly Kaepernick hasn't played professionally since March 2017 and filed a lawsuit against the league last Fall for conspiring not to hire him. Because of that many music artists are refusing to perform at any NFL events, including the Super Bowl until the ultra-talented quarterback gets a job. Travis was one of those artists, until recently. According to AllHipHop, the Sicko Mode rap star would perform at this year's halftime show under one condition, that they make a joint donation of $500K to his charity Dream Corps. They did it. So in keeping with the agreement the Houston rapper is joining the big halftime show.

CNN Crossfire co-host /criminal justice reform activist,
Van Jones. Ironically Van is managed by Jay Z's
Roc Nation Sports, and ironically Hov has been a major advocate for other celebs to stand in solidarity with Kaep by not doing business with the NFL. As a matter of fact, word has it, Jay has been talking to get Scott about not caving under pressure and agreeing to do the show. Meek Mill took to Twitter trying to encourage the young rap star to stand firm tweeting;

Clearly, Travis chose his own path. He explained why he made the decision to take the gig saying, “I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in," Scott went on to say. "I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change."

Billboard reports Jay was among those artists that declined after being asked to perform at this year's Super Bowl. Pop diva's Pink and Rihanna also turned the NFL down and British superstar Adele let the NFL know not to even ask. However, there's been a little chatter about the possibilities of Cardi B accepting an offer from the league to do the show. That would be a surprising turn of events if she did. Last year she told MTV she wouldn't do the halftime show until Kaep got his job back. Then she shouted him out again during the 2017 VMA's saying,

Do you think Cardi hold her position, or collect a check and do the show? We shall see. Meanwhile, there may be some hope for the 31-year athlete to get back in the game. Milehighreport.com reported Saturday(January 12, 2019) that the Denver Broncos may have him on their radar as a possible option to led the them into their 2019 season. I truly hope they give him a shot too! Good luck Colin!
