Rico Nasty, Coi Leray, Asian Da Brat and More Share Best Advice From Other Rappers
This year, women in hip-hop are continuing to take over and proving they're some of the most respected voices in the rap game. Several rising female rappers have been able to carve their own niche and attain success without sacrificing their self-worth. And along the way, they have received some great advice, which they've shared with XXL.
"The best advice I ever got from another rapper was from...,” she ponders before revealing her picks. “[Lil] Yachty is very wise. Earl Sweatshirt is very wise. Tierra Whack is very wise. All of those people have been the ones who have given me valuable lessons in life. Stop caring about what they say about you. Like, you’re lit, don’t give a fuck. I definitely don’t give a fuck.”
Dallas-bred rapper Asian Da Brat (formerly known as Asian Doll) recalls Tee Grizzley giving her some “cocky” advice while they were working on a song in the studio. The Detroit MC advised the rising 1017 Eskimo signee not to stretch herself thin in the rap industry by doing song features with every artist.
“Protect your craft. You don’t have to do songs with everybody,” Asian says of Grizzley's words of wisdom to her. “Just be yourself. Be you and go crazy.”
“When he said that, I took his advice and ran with it,” she continues. “It made me feel good with myself because I have been real selfish with my craft and my career. So it made me feel real good with myself."
