Sabine National Wildlife Refuge Announce West Cove/Boat Launch Closures
The Sabine National Wildlife Refuge West Cove staff is alerting residents and visitors of closures in the area. The north parking lot near the recreation area, fishing piers, and both boat launches, will be temporarily closed. The closure is to make necessary repairs to the recreation area and boat docks to maintain public safety.
During this time the public may temporarily utilize the east boat launch at Hog Island Gully for access to West Cove and Calcasieu Lake. According to Sabine National Wildlife Refuge West Cove officials the north recreation area, piers, and boat launches will remain closed to the public from December 5 - 9.
Boaters launching from Hog Island Gully can follow the canal east to the ship channel, then southwest to arrive at West Cove. Parking is very limited at the east Hog Island Gully Recreation area. Boaters and the public should be aware that once repairs are complete, the east launch at Hog Island Gully will be closed once again.
Please note it will not reopen until March 15, 2023. West Cove will be open just in time for when the Louisiana West Zone Waterfowl hunting season resumes on December 17, 2022. Until then, Refuge officials are asking the public for patience and to obey all closures while repairs are being made.
