A southeast Texas man was given a citation by a local police officer for apparently violating social distancing guidelines. The officer cited Justin VanDevender for going into an HEB Plus on Dowlen Road in Beaumont with a friend.

Many people in Texas were upset that Beaumont Mayor Beck Ames did not receive any legal repercussions for violating social distancing guidelines after recently being caught going into a nail salon. Some residents feel this is selective enforcement by authorities and are outraged.

The Beaumont City Attorney's Office has decided to dismiss the case against VanDevender. KFDM News in Beaumont reached out to city hall to inquire about how many citations have been issued due to coronavirus, but have yet to hear back.
