Slick Rick Returns to U.K. for First Time in 31 Years
Slick Rick is finally returning home after 31 years. The legendary MC, who was born in London, is set to tour the United Kingdom for the very first time in his career. The "La Di Da Di" rapper will perform in six cities around the U.K. beginning in November.
"I'm coming home, back to my foundation, my make-up, my English roots," Slick Rick said in a press release. "I'm looking forward to a nice cup of tea and some tasty biscuits."
Slick Rick's return to the U.K. comes after he was finally granted U.S. citizenship earlier this year. A few months after becoming a citizen, the "Children's Story" artist wrote an article about the need to fix the American immigration system.
"The sad truth of it is that my 23-year immigration journey was unnecessary and damaging," he wrote. "My case should have ended when the judge entered the order supporting my right to remain in the United States. We need to reinvent a system of immigration justice that grants fair, speedy hearings, free from prolonged incarceration, where an immigration judge can exercise common sense that balances a person’s misdeeds, if any, against his positive contributions to the community. This course will not only relieve a costly burden to taxpayers, it will reaffirm America’s values and commitment to human rights."
Since Slick Rick's long battle for American citizenship is over, he considers his U.K. tour to be a victory lap. Check out the full list of dates for the Coming Home Tour below.
