The Weeknd Deactivates Instagram Account, Sparks New Album Rumors
Is The Weeknd about to release his new project? No one can know for sure, but the Canadian crooner did just deactivate his Instagram account, so that's what his fans think is on the horizon.
The reclusive R&B singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, deactivated his IG account on Wednesday (June 5), which sparked rumors on social media that he’s going to drop the album on Thursday (June 6). Naturally, fans posted “06/06” to signify Chapter 6, which is thought to be the title of his new album. But alas, no album has popped up, just yet. Nevertheless, some fans think that Abel will drop something new very soon.
"The Weeknd deactivated his Instagram...he better come back with that album," tweeted on fan on Twitter. Another user commented (in all caps), OH MY GOD WHY DID ABEL DELETE HIS INSTAGRAM!??!!!!????!!!!??? IF THE ALBUM DOESN’T COME OUT ON FRIDAY I’M GOING TO LOSE IT!."
The Weeknd has been extremely quiet for the past several months. Back in January, the singer surfaced on a song by French DJ-producer Gesaffelstein called "Lost in the Fire." On the song, many fans believed that Abel threw a sneak diss at Drake with the line, "And I just want a baby with the right one/'Cause I would never be the one to hide one."
While the lyrics seem innocent enough, fans believe Weeknd was referring to Drizzy's son Adonis, a child whose existence was revealed to the world on Pusha's infamous Drake diss, "The Story of Adidon."
Before this, the two Canadian superstars have been on good terms and even supported a collaborative project between OVO and XO.
