COVID-19 Claims the Lives of Three Jazz Legends
Tuesday, April 28, 2020, COVID-19 claimed the life of trumpeter Wallace Roney. The musical genius died at the age of 59 in Patterson, New Jersey at St. Joseph Hospital due to complications from the coronavirus. The legendary Roney became the third jazz great to die from the deadly virus this month.
The iconic jazz guitar and soloist, Bucky Pizzarelli, and jazz patriarch, Ellis Marsalis Jr., both died on the same day, April 1, 2020. Pizzarelli was 94. He tested positive and died with his wife and son by his bedside. Marsalis was 85 when he passed after contracting pneumonia brought on by COVID-19.
