A Tribe Called Quest's Phife Dawg left an indelible imprint on the world of hip hop, so fans from all over the globe were shaken up when he died unexpectedly this past March. Now, they might be able to find solace in the fact that he managed to record a new album with his legendary group before his untimely death. Epic Records Chairman and CEO L.A. Reid said as much during a recent appearance on the Rap Radar Podcast.

"[It is] a brand new album that they recorded before Phife [Dawg] passed away," Reid said on the podcast. "I’m really happy about it man, it’s really something special. It’s one of the things I’m most excited about over everything we’re working on."

Reid's excitement is likely to be shared by plenty of people. Label politics apparently prevented the group from releasing a new album after they dropped The Love Movement almost 20 years. With that in mind, no one was expecting Tribe to drop a new project, especially after Phife's death. Now, it looks like we'll get to hear new music from the revolutionary group one last time.

Details regarding the new project are scarce, but we wouldn't be surprised to learn more very soon. Keep it locked with XXL for more updates on the project, one that will surely get a ton of attention in the days leading up to it's release.
