If you were to ask me what one of the greatest afterschool treats of all-time would be, I would probably answer you with one word, McFlurry. McFlurries are delightful and delicious cup fulls of frozen goodness from McDonald's. The McFlurry first hit the scene in 1997 and lovers of ice cream and things you can mix into ice cream have been relishing in the idea ever since.

McFlurries made headlines last week when it was reported that there would be a new flavor, or at least a new flavor was being test-marketed. The new McFlurry is alleged to be called the Peanut Butter Crunch McFlurry and if you like peanut butter, I think you'd like this concoction a lot.

But regardless of what flavors or additions you make to the McFlurry, it still doesn't explain the spoon. So many times, I have gotten to the bottom of my McFlurry hoping to use the hollowed out spoon as a straw to suck up the last bits of goodness, but alas. That spoon is just hollow, it isn't a straw?

Did McDonald's make a mistake when they created the McFlurry spoon?

Not hardly, they knew exactly what they were doing when they made the McFlurry spoon the way they did. It's not designed that way for me and you. It's designed with a hollowed-out top for McDonald's workers. Here, this TikTok video should explain it all.

I will be a monkey's uncle. I would have never guessed the spoon became the whisk that mixed all the goodness of your McFlurry together. So, it wasn't a design flaw, in fact, it was a design innovation. Now, the McDonalds tiny sugar spoons of the 70s and 80s, that was a design flaw, but the McFlurry spoon, that's good science.

So, now you know. Oh, and one more thing while we are on the subject of McDonald's and ice cream. I have never in my entire life encountered a broken ice cream machine at a McDonalds. I've been visiting McDonald's since the late 1960s, not once has the ice cream machine ever been out of service. Am I just lucky? Or are y'all making too big of a deal about the dang ice cream machine?

By the way, save that McFlurry spoon, chances are you can come up with another use for it. All you have to do is be inventive, like these people.
