Every 40 seconds, a child goes missing or is abducted. According to the FBI's National Crime Information Center (NCIC), of the 609,275 records entered in 2019, 294,204 were Missing Person Circumstances (MPC): 208,175 were runaway, 2,461 were abducted by noncustodial parent, 322 were by a stranger, and 11,246 were adults.

According to the National Center for Missing or Exploited Children (NCMEC), roughly 800,000 children are reported missing each year in the United States, which is about 2,000 a day.
