It hurt my heart to learn U.T.F.O rap pioneer Kangol Kid has passed away. The music legend whose real name was Shaun Shiller Fequiere, pictured above with the iconic LL Cool J was reportedly died 3 weeks after taking this picture. He was only 55. Kangol was diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in March.

People like the G.O.A.T., Shawn Pen, family, and friends took time out to visit Kangol in his last days at the North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. This will be the last time he would see his friend alive. Kangol fought like hell since being diagnosed undergoing various treatments but lost his battle on Saturday, Dec. 18 at roughly 3 am. Just like that the world of Hip Hop has once again, changed forever.

Longtime New York City promoter, Van Silk, confirmed the devastating news via text to HipHopDX. He wrote, “RIP KANGOL KID. He passed at 3:02 a.m. My prayers go out to my brother who fought a battle of colon cancer at Stage 4.” This hit home for Van because he is also battling colon cancer. The promoter said, “Early on, we discussed our fight with this disease because my fight with colon cancer is stage 2. He told me it had spread in October. I encourage all to get your prostate and colon checked. May my brother Kangol Rest In Heaven.” One thing is for sure he will join a growing list of rap legends beyond the golden gates, like the legendary Earl Simons, who just gained his wings on April 9, 2021.

He is absolutely correct. Colorectal Cancer is a monster and EVERYONE 50 and older needs to get screened. This disease gets missed a lot because it has little to no symptoms. Screenings are lifesavers and necessary in detecting this deadly disease. Colon cancer is the 2nd leading cause of cancer-related deaths in the U.S and the 4th leading cause in Louisiana. If your family has a history of this disease, get screened before you turn 50. The main thing is talking to your doctor and finding out what the risk factors are, how to minimize them and when you need to get screened. Get healthcare advice concerning colon cancer with a medical professional.

Chadwick Boseman was only 43 when he died of colorectal cancer. He was diagnosed with Stage 3 in 2016. Despite aggressive treatment, surgery, and chemo the beloved actor died in the prime of his life on August 28, 2020. Baseball icon Darryl Strawberry was 36 years old when he was diagnosed in 1998. He underwent various treatments, had surgery and the disease is currently in remission. Legendary movie star Audrey Hepburn died in 1993 and countless others have lost their battle with this disease.

Our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of Kangol Kid. May he rest in everlast peace.
