Usher Will Bring ‘Spark’ to the 34th Annual Macy’s July 4 Fireworks Show
Get ready to 'Scream' with delight this Independence Day. Usher has been tapped to curate Macy's 4th of July fireworks show in New York.
The R&B superstar will create a special score and video specifically for this year's fireworks presentation called "It Begins with a Spark."
“I’m really excited to add my flavor to the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, the largest show in America," Usher said in a press release. "As an artist, it’s important that I expand creatively into new areas. Working on the score and fireworks design has been a great experience that’s allowed me to share my voice in a new way."
This is the first time Macy's has allowed a music artist to handle their prestigious fireworks event. According to the retail chain, the score will include several decades of music from genres ranging from pop to country to soul to EDM.
Along with Usher's chart-topping hits, patriotic favorites like 'God Bless America,' 'Star-Spangled Banner' and 'America the Beautiful' will be incorporated into the score as well.
Usher will also team up with Macy's fireworks designers to present a visual accompaniment to the music that will include never-before-seen effects and that "spark" that will wow audiences.
"The 4th of July is a collective celebration of freedom and I hope that through the music and visuals, I’ve helped express the energy and passion of our nation," the 'Climax' singer said. "I can’t wait for the countdown; we’re getting ready to surprise the audience with the ultimate Independence Day party."
The 37th annual Macy's 4th of July Fireworks display will air after the annual concert on NBC. Musical acts have not been announced as of yet.
