Sadly, Etta James is now terminally ill.  Etta's personal physician, Elaine James (no relation) is providing her with around-the-clock care since informing her two weeks ago that her chronic leukemia was incurable.  The physician wanted to go public so her friends and fans could pray for the 73 year old legend.

Dr. James told The Press-Enterprise in Riverside, Calif., that family members were told two weeks ago that Ms. James’s chronic leukemia could not be cured.  Dr. James stated, “I am Southern and Christian and would just ask for the prayers of her fans and friends.  They know she’s been sick, but not how sick.”

Etta James, is a absolute legend and has been among the most celebrated American blues singers for decades, recording unforgettable hits like “At Last,” “Tell Mama” and “I’d Rather Go Blind.” She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993.  As played out in the movie "Cadillac Records" her career was plagued by drug addiction, the pain of her fathers abandonment, troubled relationships and legal problems.

In 2010 Etta was hospitalized for a staph infection.  It would be revealed that she was suffering from Alzheimer’s and that she had been treated for dependence of painkillers.  Dr. James has been caring for Etta at her home in Riverside since March 2010.

Meanwhile, a probate proceeding between her son Donato James and husband Artis Mills has been on going for a while now.  Today they will be in a Riverside Superior Court to determine who will have legal authority over her estate which is estimated to be worth a little more than $1 million dollars.
